There are lots and lots of stories out there where H & G's initial meet is pushed forward by any number of years, and the authors attempt this with varying degrees of believability and success. Your interactions between H & G are believable and interesting at any point in their lives, and especially so while they are younger and Ginny is innocent while Harry is damaged and alone. Ginny is perfect - she is very thoughtful, compassionate, and brave in her own way, while at the same time staying quite firmly childlike and just a bit impatient. Harry, while obviously less 'vocal' in this short little fic, is just as much a child, and the effects of his stay at the Dursleys are quite firmly drawn; but he is still a child, and all he really needs and wants is a little bit of (positive) attention and someone to care about and for him.
