Fun little drabble. I've seen plenty of next-generation fics (or their summaries, more properly) that explore putting Harry's children in various houses. I admit that I had never considered what the 'old guard' might think of such unexpected placements, though. I didn't know what was coming until the final line. Beyond that, I enjoy the peek into Narcissa's mind. Who is she that she even has such a mirror? It is readily imaginable, but it opens up whole new realms of speculation.
I think the parameters of the prompt create the "wall" against which one leans the fic. Once I knew I had to write about Narcissa and Scorpius, the trick was how not to make it maudlin and/or predictable.
Narcissa strikes me as someone who would think a lot about the passage of time. She has all these sides to her (indeed, she shows more aspects than almost any character in canon, and with comparatively little screen time). I imagine that she'd be drawn to yearning for the past and obsessing about the future.
