It's an interesting idea. What if you took a reasonably long fic (say 20k-100k words) and tried to boil it down to as few sentences or short paragraphs as possible? How short could you make the story without losing any vital content? That could be a really good exercise for eliminating unnecessary verbiage and even unnecessary plot elements.
