The Lost Fic Thread : Looking for a story once read . . .

"Another lost lamb of a story" - Figured it out.

Finally located this fic. It had been it's own story, but it was absorbed into a collection of one-shots. The author is Perspicacity, whose "Dagger and Rose" fic I quite enjoyed, and is simply titled "Negotiations."

Looking for a "doll house" story

Considering that I do much of my reading offline, I'm surprised that I can't find this on my computer, so I'll ask for help here...

There was a story, I think it was a one-shot but it's possible it was a chapter in embedded in a story, where Fred and George wanted to make little Harry Potter dolls and sell them. They brought Harry in to show him to get his permission. For fun, they also created dolls of his friends and put them all in a doll house to test their creation, to see if they had made the dolls correctly. They noticed that the Harry and Ginny dolls started spending time together and pointed this out to Harry, as a way to motivate him to ask their sister out.

Or at least I think it was something like the above. My searches of the stories and on google have turned up nothing that looks reasonable. Does anyone else remember a story like this?

Thanks,
Kevin

Not one I've read before,

Not one I've read before, but your description was enough to pique my interest, so I ran a search of my own, and I think I found it.

I bow to your searching skills! :)

I bow to your searching skills! :) That's it. A little different than what I remember, but that's why I wanted to find it ... to remember.

Thanks!!!

Driving me crazy...

Does anyone remember the story where Ginny goes and visits Harry at the Dursley's in cat form, only he doesn't realize it's her. We later learn she is a natural tiger animagus and had to have runes put on her body to turn into a house cat and they had to be peeled off. I don't think it's finished and I'm pretty sure I read it on SIYE.

Thanks,

V

It's on this site

It's by mmeriam, an author on this site. The title is "Becoming" - and it is finished.

See the "Authors" list or the "Stories" link.

Dark knitter?

I remember a story that included a bit where the Hogwarts house-elves refused to allow Hermione to enter the kitchens, referring to her as "The Dark Knitter." For the life of me I can't remember where I read it or the title.

Wow! What a title! Love to see who came up with that one.

Possibilities

I was intrigued, so I did some creative Googling. Was it "A Thousand Years" by Alorkin? http://ficwad.com/story/220314

Also, there is an HP-themed knitter out there who goes by the name "The Dark Knitter". He or she is quite prolific.

I think it is a relatively old story

The story I read was definitely not something written in the past year or so. Since I was never a crew member of HMS Harmony I would not have selected the story as something to read. I wonder if I read it on the "Checkmated" site? Prior to HBP I had no clue who Harry might be paired up with in canon however, I have always enjoyed Ron/Hermione stories.

Perhaps a variation?

Are you absolutely sure it was specifically "The dark knitter"?
I've seen a few variations of this over the years, the most memorable being "She-who-makes-hats" which generates a couple of hits in a google search, and "She-who-knits" which also generates a few hits but most of them are from review pages.

The latter seems to originate in Full Pensieve's Harry Potter and the Years of Rebellion:

It was then re-used by Aaran St Vines in Great Scott, Potter, This is War!.

Could either of those be the story you were looking for?

Oh, thanks!

It is quite possible I mis-remembered the term. The FFA.net story is completely unfamiliar, but I have read "... This is War!" That may well be where I came across the Voldemort like term used for Hermione!

Found answer to my old question

Stumbled across "Saying No" by Bobmin356 on FanFiction.net. In chapter 3:

Quote:

Harry looked at Ron, who shrugged. Rubbing his face tiredly, he squashed the urge to grumble and instead offered Dobby a job with him.

The cry of happiness wasn’t surprising, but the impact of the small body against his knees jarred him slightly. Looking down with some amusement, he met the shining eyes of the elf and listened as Dobby pledged to serve and protect him always.

As the elf paused for a breath, Ron sat down across from Harry and grinned. “Hermione’s going to throw a fit.”

“No, she won’t, “Harry disagreed.

“Harry Potter is right. Dobby is being paid, so the Dark Seamstress will be happy,” Dobby added.

Ron and Harry stared at the elf.

“Dark Seamstress?” Ron finally asked, his voice hoarse

“Oh, God, that’s perfect,” Harry said, trying to choke back his laughter.

Ron slid into his chair and stared at Harry. “She’ll kill him if she ever hears that name,“ he muttered, before beginning to laugh.

Getting control of himself, Harry looked at Dobby. “You can’t call her that, Dobby. It would hurt her feelings. Oh, and call me Harry.”

looking for a story...

Well, so this thread hasn't seen any new postings in over a year...

... time to revive it!

I'm looking for a story where Harry comes to Hogwarts and is ostracized from the very beginning. IIrc he doesn't participate in any activities, I think Hermione is even killed by the troll because he doesn't see the need to take action.
McGonagall and the other teachers are most disappointed with his academic performance.

I think the story title alludes to the fact that Harry doesn't see much difference between his situation at Hogwarts and the Dusleys'. Everywhere he is mistreated.

I read this years ago, and honestly I don't even know what to look for without getting 2,000 hits.

So if this sounds familiar to you and you have a story title / author for me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Philip
