How much is enough?

    Scouting around for something new to read I came across Ginny's Journey on SIYE.

    I was surprised to find that the interaction between H&G after 48 chapters is minimal. I won't be continuing with the story because I didn't actually like it, but it got me thinking; how much H&G does the story have to have to find a place on the site?

    The submission rules state that: SIYE is a shipper archive for Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley fan fiction. Stories submitted for posting on SIYE must feature Harry and Ginny as the primary couple unless prior arrangement has been made with the SIYE Administration.

    That I understand, but if there is no primary couple or Harry and/or Ginny get togther with an OC before hand is this within the rules?

    It may seem a small point, but I think the strength of SIYE is that it is H&G and I question the place of stories that don't (appear to) support that.

    This particular story is from the Ginny Potter site that is more the character of Ginny alone / paired with others, but is fated with Harry at the end. It's a rather old story. I read this story at that site, and it's OK to put on SIYE. but only because of the ending and that Ginny is hung over Harry through out this story. The funny part is that Ginny comes across Harry clones, including a Daniel Yes, Harry's part is somewhat minimal. He gets more time toward the end. I like the character as an individual but part of the appeal is the H/G factor. I think the Ginny character becomes so much more when paired with Harry. Part of the reason SIYE is around at all is the reaction to the very hostile view of Ginny, the minor character interloper that captures Harry's fancy. Without a doubt, the most hated character in the HP world.

    Having said that, I slogged through a huge 30 chapter plus saga of Ginny angst supreme on Live Journal. She is separated from Harry through most of it. With no end in sight (it might go up to 50 chapters) The author did not write an outline, so who knows how many chapters this thing will be. Harry & Ginny were last together on chapter 17. They don't get face to face till chapter 34. I quite because the angst got old. I'm not the only one who quite that story. I've read complaints about it here. I have no idea if it's OK on SIYE, even though there will be happy ending between the two. It's just 75% either Ginny alone (with or without boyfriends) and Harry alone (with or without the random girlfriend) I guess it's a safe bet that just ending has to be H/G to be OK on SIYE

    That's one of the reasosns why I find it hard to read either of them on their own. I forgot to add on the original post; 'and does it matter?' For a story to be a good one, I don't think it does, but I think the site's raison d'etre demands that the other , whether H or G, gets more than a passing mention or slips in at the end.
