Challenge #1: Perspectives on Mortality

    The setting:
At the end of Book 4, when Harry returns with Cedric's body.

    The challenge:
Pick a non-central character (excluded list below), and write about what the canon events mean to this character. The story is to be written from their point of view, and it should focus on their growing understanding of the implications of events. Dialog is not forbidden, but any dialog should contribute to the central theme. The story must begin when Harry returns with Cedric's body, but the end point (in the timeline) for the piece is where you choose to make it.

    The restrictions:
    1. Maximum allowed length: 3581 words, including author's notes
    2. All entries must be posted in complete form by midnight Pacific Time on August 31, 2008.
    3. No alpha/beta readers/editors allowed. This should be conceived, written, and edited solely by the author without any external input.
    4. You cannot write from the PoV of any of these characters: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Cho, Dumbledore, Moody, and/or Snape.

Recused mediator for judging and voting:
    Moshpit

You may submit stories for the challenge any time before midnight Pacific Time on August 30, 2008. However, all challenge stories will be posted on September 1, 2008. Until that time, your story will not appear on the site. You may edit your story as much as you wish until it is posted, but after that time, editing your story (aside from fixing html tags, formatting, and other non-story details) will disqualify it from the competition.

If you have any questions about the challenge, feel free to post them here.

    The word count . . .

That's a maximum. If you can do it in five, more power to you.

    Dave, you mention that

Dave, you mention that non-story details can be changed after posting. I'm new to posting fanfic online so I'd like to ask if the way the story appears on my workspace is the way it will appear when it's posted?

Dino has been helping me with things like finding info on html tags and I think I've got the formatting right but it sounds like I should check the story as soon as it's posted to double check.

Miri, since I'm not sure if Dave is around or has the time to answer the question, so I'll do it for him.

Once it's posted, the story will look exactly like it appears in your workspace, so no worries.
